Defining Unconscious Competency
Now, many people ask me, “Alan, exactly what is “unconscious competency,” and how do I know when I’m operating from that level of skill and performance?”
My answer is really simple and straightforward…
You can look at it this way– you have achieved a level of “unconscious competency” when your skill/performance in a given context has dropped down into the realm of your unconscious functioning…
And you find yourself performing behaviors automatically…not having to give conscious thought to the process.
For instance, if you were to bend down to tie your shoe, you could do that without having to give conscious attention to the process. And, if you think about it,you drive your car that way, for the most part.
How Does Tiger Woods Do It?!
Now, think about the extraordinary golfer, Tiger Woods. He performs on a level that creates a frenzy of anticipation and excitement wherever he plays…
And you no doubt understand that his exquisite performance is primarily driven from… less than conscious dynamics.
As you think about it, you can see that Tiger’s performance begins and flows from within…emanating from an inner dynamic that…naturally create genius performance and outcomes.
Now, if you want to master a context of your life…no, if you want to master your total life, period… you will want to master the art and skill of communicating with the unconscious mind… and that of directing unconscious processes.
Because, for you to live in the realm of genius… and to master your life…each context of your life…requires that you master how your mind operates on a less than conscious level… a level that we can call the unconscious level.
The Secret To Life Mastery?
Now, if there is any secret to life mastery, this would be it. And, you know, of course, there is no one secret…
And, beginning now, it can be easy for you to learn useful tools, strategies and technologies that will simply give you more of what you want…
Realizing that it all begins with a first step…
A step in the direction of enhancing your skills to build “unconscious competency” into your life, across all contexts, and on all levels.
And…I know, from the experience of coaching others, that you can actually change or dramatically improve anything in your life.

Because the masses respond to their success with attitudes and behaviors that keep them at their current level of success. Meaning,they continue to do what is “working” for them.
And there is another way, one that I’ve come to understand from an experiential level. Now, when something works well for me, I put it aside…
Believing that I will soon discover what will bring about even more delightfully surprising rewards.
And there is someone I know who has truly mastered this attitude and rare skill…but more on him later.
