If you’re human, you know what frustration is.
It’s what we usually feel when we are stuck somewhere between where we are and where we want to be. It’s what we often feel when we want something now, but something or someone just seems to be in the way of our getting what we want.
It’s human to want things, “things” being whatever it is we want at the moment.
Someone, somewhere is probably, no, make that definitely, is wanting to:
- Lose weight
- Make more money
- More sex or better sex
- A better job
- A better boss
- A vacation
- A significant other relationship
- Peace of mind
- Self-confidence
- Write a book
- Be a celebrity
You get the idea, but the list is pretty endless.
We all want things like this, but they don’t just magically appear, no matter what “The Secret” (You know, the DVD and the book) seems to suggest. Actually, “The Secret” has a lot of good content, but it left a few things out.
So, the next time you’re feeling frustrated, and want to feel better fast, here’s a few tips to remember:
- Being frustrated means you’re human.
Everyone, and I mean everyone, gets frustrated. That includes Wayne Dyer, Depak Chopra and the Dali Lama. All the renowned “teachers” and “gurus” still alive today are human beings, which means they get frustrated. If you lived with them twenty-four hours a day, my prediction is you would see them get frustrated from time to time.
So, if you get frustrated, join the club. It’s not a bad club. It includes even all the wonderful spiritual teachers. Even Buddah got frustrated, and don’t forget Christ.
This club also includes the smartest people in the world. Think about Einstein. How much do you want to bet that he got frustrated? I mean, that dude set out to solve some of the toughest mind bogglers of his day, so I would imagine he could relate to frustration!
- Remind yourself that you won’t be frustrated for an eternity.
Frustration is time limited.
In the midst of your frustration, pause, take a few deep breaths, and relish in the fact that given time, your frustration will pass. In fact, just for fun, the next time you’re frustrated, take out a stop watch and time it. I’m pretty sure it will fall short of eternity.
- Think about a time when you were feeling really great.
Really get into it. Picture in color, make it life size or bigger, remember the sounds you heard, what you smelled and what you felt. (Especially if you were having sex.) In fact, make a movie of whatever you were doing when you were feeling so good. Don’t just watch the movie, step into it and live it again.
Really. If you haven’t done this already, do it now, and the come back to this.
Okay, you’re back? Good…
Now, what were you saying about frustration?
